The foam got brittle on them and deteriorated. They say for years while I was in school. Now that I have time and a job I picked up a reform kit and replaced the dust covers.The speakers are driven by an Onkyo TX-NR636.

This is my first set up so I don’t have a tuned ear per say. The bass with this system is overwhelming even without a sub. They still deliver a crisp sound in my opinion.I know these were big for rock music back in the day and are likely limited when it comes to electronic, hip hop, and other genres.

Right now they are a pleasure to listen to.If anyone has recommendations on how to further improve this set up I’d greatly appreciate it. Speakers are all 10 ft exactly from listening position. Set the distances in the settings and that already made a positive change in sound.Eventually I’d like to add a centre speaker. And also clean up the bird nest of wiring haha. Have been keeping this a budget build. Found the avr on local classifieds. For me it was my first time doing anything related to audio repair.

I ordered a kit from santon audio (I’m out of Canada, I saw lots of kits on eBay if your in the states).All in all it was pretty simple. I used video for reference. The main things are make sure you do a good job of scraping off the old foam (carefully) and taking your time gluing.I ended up gluing one off the 8” s a little bit off so the voice coil was rubbing. Just didn’t do a great job for centering that one.

The glue I got in my kit doesn’t cure very fast so I found myself having to tend to it for up to half an hour to make sure the foam was where it should be. Found the 12’s to be way easier than the 8’s.TLDR; it’s easy. You can definitely do it, just take your timeA and look up videos on it.Basically the only thing I’d try to change if I did it again is find a faster setting speaker glue.

Yeah definitely look into it especially if there are holes opening up in the foam. Very pleased with the sound from then now.I have the distances set in the sound field settings on my AVR so sitting exactly 10ft away is great. The 280’s definitely over power the 200’s even in the highs and mids currently. Going to have to play around with sound levels and possibly room treatment (I.e. Move items obstructing the surrounds) since currently the surround sounds aren’t as prominent as I’d expect them to be.
